Culture

NS students are eager to share their unique Inuit culture with residents of the National Capital Region and beyond.

Their cultural performances can last from10 minutes to an hour or more, depending on the audience and the venue. Their performances are suitable for audiences of all ages.

Performances can include demonstrations of:

  • Traditional throat singing
  • Traditional and contemporary Inuit songs
  • Drumming
  • Arctic sports (high kick etc)
  • Inuit clothing
  • Inuktitut language

Students annually share their culture at the following types of events:

  • Governor General's Winter Party
  • Winterlude
  • Elementary schools
  • Conferences and special events
  • Parliament Hill
  • Victoria Island

Fees are negotiable. Money raised goes towards the students' end-of-year trip where they travel to other countries to share the story of Nunavut with other indigenous peoples.
